Author Says Study Pinpoints Failure of Organized Religion, Not Faith WHAT: Newsweek, in a story on its Web site headlined “The End of Christian America,” reports that the percentage of self-identified Christians has dropped 10 points in the past 20 years. Author Wayne Jacobsen says that the statistics quoted from the 2009 American Religious Identification Survey aren’t so much a rejection of faith, but an increasing rejection of a specific type of agenda represented by many people in the religious establishment. WHO: Wayne Jacobsen focuses on developing a personal relationship with Christ rather than getting caught up in the rules and regulations of religion. His two current books are “He Loves Me! Learning to Live in the Father’s Affection,” a work of nonfiction which takes an in-depth look into a loving God, and “So You Don’t Want to Go to Church Anymore,” a fictional account of a man whose views on organized religion are challenged when he meets someone he believes may be one of Jesus’ original disciples. Jacobsen and his friend Brad Cummings formed Windblown Media in 2007 to publish books that help people develop a closer personal relationship with Christ. Their first title was “The Shack” by William Young, which has since sold more than 7 million copies and became a New York Times No. 1 bestseller. WHEN/WHERE: Via telephone or in studio from L.A., by appointment DETAILS: Wayne Jacobsen says the Newsweek story fails to point out that many people of faith, even those passionate about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, no longer claim a religious affiliation or participate in the congregations and denominations that have been the backbone of Christianity in America. He says that the study reveals more of a failure of organized religion than a failure of faith. NOTE: For more information or to schedule an interview with Wayne Jacobsen, contact Steve Yount of A.
